Will Tamili Sai’s Congress Roots Help BJP?
BJP has finally sent its own party leader, Tamili Sai Soundarrajan, whose family had strong roots in Congress Party as the Governor of Telangana. It’s gratifying, of course, to those who have been complaining that Telangana governance, say cabinet, has no female representation. Now the first citizen of Telangana is a woman. It’s no secret that governors serve their political masters in the centre.
Tamili Sai’s parents and grandparents had served Congress and were familiar to the rank and file not only in Tamil Nadu but in other Southern states. Her maternal grandfather was the close associate of the then tallest congress leader of the south, Kama raj Nadar.
Though BJP is trying its best to make inroads into the two Telugu states, it has made its foothold by bagging 4 Loksabha seats out of 16 in Telangana. It’s ahead of Congress in the score. Congress ended up with three. Of late, BJP could woo many Congress leaders into its fold. Among them, D.K.Aruna’s entry was a big win. Vijayashanti, who played key role in Telangana movement, is now not happy with Congress. She may likely to join BJP. Vijayashanti’s Chennai connections are well known.
Many women faces may surface in the saffron party in a short while. Tamil Sai’s presence in Rajbhavan, may help these disgruntled congress leaders in finding BJP a viable choice. So in many ways, Tamili Sai’s appointment as the Telangana Governor is a calculated move.
