A still from ‘Penguin’

Homes have become offices for work, theaters for entertainment, thanks to Covid-19. Over The Top (OTT) platforms have come to stay for screening the latest movies and web series. But here is a rider: Not all genres and themes go well here.

Not all movies go well with OTT: Santosh Film Maker

What-will- happen- next thriller movies occupy much place in these platforms. He says “A few concept-oriented movies like penguin and 36+ are the best suited to OTT platforms,” said Mr. Santosh, a film maker. ” ” Bu they won’t do well in theaters despite their well-woven scripts. They may not draw bigger crowds in Multiplexes,” he added.

OTT saves money: Ahmed, Film Lover

It’s true. Home can’t totally replace a theater. “OTT is the inevitable option for all those who are confined to comes due to the pandemic but can never be a match to the public screening theater,” Mr. Ahmed, a film lover said. He recalled his experience of watching movie in theaters during pre- Covid19 days. “Going to theaters is a big planning, as we need to find place and date. Lot of fun is involved. This involves getting ready, travelling and standing in ques for tickets at box offices. Audio experience in multiplexes with systems like Dolby Sound is altogether different”, reminisced. Mr, Ahmed, however, has a point to go with OTT, which is purely economical. He would spend Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000 on a movie to have this theater experience for him and members of his family. That could be his annual spending on OTT.

Producers have already made up their minds on OTT budgets and are satisfied with table profits they may likely to get. Revenues flow in two ways now: One through satellite rights and the other OTT rights.
